New Federal Kennel Legislation has been Introduced

Senator Durbin (D-IL) has issued a press release about S.3424 and H.R.5434.

The National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA), a trusted national advocate for the responsible use of animals, has been watching the situation carefully.  The current draft seeks to define who should be regulated by how many dogs they sell annually (50) rather than by the number of intact bitches they own.

The Humane Society of the US has been involved with crafting this legislation.  We need to act now to keep this legislation from moving this year even though it is unlikely to do so before the elections.  However, this will give us a head start on the fight when it will almost certainly be reintroduced in 2011.
